Abcess with jawbreaking pain at night, yet feel no pain durring the day?

Is this typical of an abscess tooth? Or does this sound symptom sound like something else? Is this normal?Yes, it is typical to have more pain at night, due to your blood flowing easier throughout your body while laying down. Usually an abscessed tooth will let you know something is wrong for several days, weeks or sometimes months. One thing is for sure, if you don't have it treated soon, it will blow up on you with the worst pain you have ever felt, and it will probably happen on a weekend when you can't find a dentist.

If you have throbbing at night mainly, enough to keep you up or wake you, then this is most likely an abscess brewing. See your dentist for a diagnosis and treatment soon.

Additional information: Yes, antibiotics will help to reduce the infection of an abscess, but it will not cure a tooth that is dying, you will need a root canal or an extraction. Take either Advil or Motrin 600mg every 4-6 hours, these are anti-inflammatory which will work to ease the inflammation, swelling and help with pain.i think you grind your teeth at nightDental problems are typically more painful at night. Not sure why. Go get it fixed ASAP! Prolonged problems with your teeth can lead to problems elsewhere in your body.i don't know exactly why but i had an abcessed tooth before and when i would lay down it would hurt like hell, and when i sat up it would quit throbbing. maybe prop some pillows up tonight.Go to the dentist so that you can get that antibotic to rid yourself of the absess. Then go back for the removal of the tooth. If not it only gets worseYES I HAD ONE SO BAD MY WHOLE NECK SWOLE UP FILLED WITH PUS GOT STUCKIN THE HOSPITAL FOR A WEEK DOCTORS CANT DO **** UNTIL THE GIVE U MEDS AND SWELLING GO DOWN GOOD LUCK I FEEL UR PAINSee your dentist and ask for antibiotics (like penicillin) to clear up the infection. My dentist put me on penicillin - 4 per day for 7 days. Cleared up the problem and let me finally get some sleep.I think its because during the day you have your mind on other things, where as at night, when you arent doing something, your mind dwells on the pain. Thats why people tend to get more homesick at night, or feel pain more intensely at night.
