Is there a way to count the the number of times a certain character appears in a word document?

For Example: Using word pad, or microsoft works word processor, or an mozilla firefox internet page directly is there a way I could find out the number of times the number "8" appears on that certain document?Open your Microsoft Works file in Excel, once your Microsoft Works file is in a compatible format, you can open it in Excel.

1. On the File menu, click Open.
2. In the Look in list, click the drive or folder that contains the file you want to open, and then locate the folder that contains the file.
3. In the Files of type list, click one of the following file types:
- If the file is in Microsoft Works format, click Microsoft Works 2.0 Files (*.wks).
- If the file is in Microsoft Excel file format, click Microsoft Excel Files (*.xl*;*.xls;*.xla;*.xlt;*.*.xlm; *.xlc;).
- If the file is in Lotus 1-2-3 format, click Lotus 1-2-3 Files (*.wk?).
Double-click the file you want to open.

For example if you save document in Excel (ie: Coloumn A1:A10) then put below function in cell B1

=SUM(LEN(A2:A10)
-LEN(SUBSTITUTE
(A2:A10,"8","")))

then Excel will count the number of 8 character in column A1:A10
Good luck.Yes, there is. But, unfortunately, I don't know how to do it. Sorry!!!Yes its a setting in word counter!ctrl and f at the same time. then a box will pop up. enter what u want it 2 find and then click on find. it will count them and tell uYes, copy the text and paste it into your word processor. (It works this way in Word...hopefully it does the same in Wordpad or Works. Then go to Find, replace. Use Help if you need to. Choose to replace the "8" (or whatever) with a percentage mark (or some other character that you know does NOT exist in the document). Let the process run (very quickly). When it's done, you'll get a little report on how many changes were made. There's your answer. Then, if you need to, you can Undo it. There's a button on your toolbar for that, or you can press CTRL+Z to undo the changes. Good luck!
